# Overview

> The Liquid API reference: base URLs, authentication, rate limits, and request and response schemas for every endpoint.

The Liquid API is an OpenAI-compatible inference API plus native endpoints for decision models and large batch uploads. Every endpoint lives under one host:

```text theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
https://api.liquid.ai
```

| Prefix | Endpoints |
| - | - |
| `/openai/v1` | OpenAI-compatible models, chat completions, files, and batches. Point the official OpenAI clients here. |
| `/decisions/v1` | Decision models, implementing [TypeSafe's System One API](https://docs.typesafe.ai/api). Point the TypeSafe clients at `/decisions`. |
| `/v1` | Native endpoints, such as presigned [large batch uploads](https://docs.liquid.ai/api/guides/batch.md). |

## Authentication

Every request needs an API key, sent as a bearer token: `Authorization: Bearer $LIQUID_API_KEY`. Create a key on the [API keys](https://console.liquid.ai/dashboard/api-keys) page of Liquid Console; it is shown once. See the [Quickstart](https://docs.liquid.ai/api/quickstart.md#create-and-export-an-api-key). To send a request from a reference page, paste your key into its playground.

Model ids in the examples appear as `$MODEL_ID` (and `$DECISION_MODEL_ID` for decision models). Replace them with a model id from the [Models](https://console.liquid.ai/dashboard/models) page or [`GET /openai/v1/models`](https://docs.liquid.ai/api/reference/models/list-models).

## Rate limits

Inference requests count toward a limit for your organization and model. See [Rate limits](https://docs.liquid.ai/api/reference/rate-limits.md).
